When you’re opening a cafe, there is a lot of room for creativity and individuality. You can really be yourself and conduct business the way you want to. However, there are typically five traits that all successful cafe owners share.
1) Collaboration: You should be able to work well with others. The business is yours, but you should always keep in mind that the ideas of others can be a valuable asset to you.
Also, you have to be able to work with your other employees, especially if you hire others to manage your cafe for you while you are not there. Finding people that you trust makes it easier to collaborate with them, so try to find trustworthy and capable staff in order to make things run as smoothly as possible.
2) Individuality: You should also be able to work independently from others. If you are used to being managed, you might find that it’s hard to get self-motivated.
Some people need the pressure of deadlines to work best, while others are more comfortable with just going with the flow.
Whatever your preferences, you should be capable of both working with others and working individually.
3) Creativity: I would argue that creativity is the most important trait of all successful cafe and coffee shop owners. Creativity is how you get your business to stand out from the rest, and drive new business in.
You don’t want to run just another generic cafe with no personality and no uniqueness, and this is where creativity comes in.
4) Strong Customer Service Ethic: You will obviously have to be good with people when you are opening a cafe, and especially good at customer service. In addition, you will need to be able to have the skills to work with and manage your employees.
5) Ability to Manage: When running a cafe, you have to be willing to be a leader. Strong leadership assures that the work gets done in a way that is timely, efficient, and up to your standards. Don’t be afraid to lead, otherwise your cafe will not be as successful as it could be.
There are definitely other skills that go into being a great cafe owner, but these five are definitely among the most important.

There are a few pretty common mistakes that people make when opening a cafe. Knowing these mistakes will help you recognize and avoid them, and ultimately make you a more successful café owner!
You have to have enough money to open your cafe. A big mistake that people make is going forward with their new business but with only just enough money to do so. You can’t depend on making a profit from Day One and you should always make sure that you have enough money to pay for your living and personal expenses in addition to opening your cafe.
Also, there are often hidden or unknown costs associated with opening your cafe. Having a cash buffer zone will help with things like cafe equipment failure or other unexpected costs. You cafe will be more likely to grow and thrive if you ensure that you have enough extra cash to cover unknown expenses.
One of the largest mistakes made by people when opening a cafe is that of planning, or, rather, lack thereof. Be sure that you have a firm and detailed business plan before starting out.
Do your research first. Figure out your market and your target demographic. Decide what you really want to do.
Doing your planning and your research before you even open your doors will help you figure out how to make your business both unique and successful. It will also help you figure out how much money you’ll need to get started, how you will manage your business, who will be involved, and what your overall business plan will be.
The people that you hire to work in your cafe are very important. You should be choosy and very selective, and don’t hesitate to get rid of someone who is dishonest, inconsistent, or just is not getting the job done. Your staff are the face of your cafe, and will either bring customers in or chase them away.
In order to avoid making the mistake of hiring all the wrong people, it’s very important that you have a system in place early on that you help you to vet potential employees. Don’t stop at just one interview, and consider having a probationary period that will help you test out your new employees.
Hire the right people so that you can trust them to work with you ethically and over the long haul. After you’ve manned the counters or the kitchens at your cafe for a while, you may want to hand over the reins to some of your employees and let them manage your cafe. Having reliable and trustworthy employees will ensure that this is possible.

When it comes to dining out, families often don’t have a lot of options. Many restaurants, coffee shops, and other establishments don’t have child-friendly policies in place. You can create a niche by being a child and family-friendly cafe.
Yes, sometimes children can be disastrous when having a nice night out, and not just for parents — the presence of kids can be detrimental to nearby patrons, as well. This is why many places are not more family-friendly. But there are many things that you can do in order to make your restaurant or coffee shop more accessible to families.
When running a cafe it can be a good idea to have a separate children’s menu in your restaurant or cafe. This will make sure that families feel that they have plenty of options, and will give them an incentive to come to your establishment when it comes to family dining.
The kid’s menu should include plenty of healthy options, as parents are now becoming more health-conscious and are concerned about what cafe food feed their children. So the kid’s menu should include plenty of options, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Also, make sure that you include plenty of drink options for children, instead of just soft drinks. The inclusion of fruit juice and low-fat milk will appeal to the more health-conscious patrons.
A lot of establishments offer a free dessert or toy with a kid’s meal. This practice appeals to the child and the parent, as it’s a great deal and makes the kid happy. Consider adding a special surprise for children if you want to establish yourself as a family-friendly cafe. Running a cafe can mean you are often flat out and can become stuck for ideas, scout around and see what other restaurants or cafes are offering for children.
You may need to train your staff as to how to interact with children. Kids should be treated delicately, and your staff should be instructed on how to talk with children in your establishment: no vulgar language, soft tones, and plenty of things to offer them, such as colouring crayons, puzzles, or other toys. It’s a good idea to provide children with some kind of entertainment — it will keep them busy, and let the adults enjoy their dining experience, while feeling like their children aren’t being ignored or neglected.
Even if a child is grumpy, rude, or ill-behaved, make sure that you and your staff behave with patience in order to promote yourself as a family-friendly business. It doesn’t take much — some complimentary colouring crayons, a free dessert or toy included with a kid’s meal, or simply a smile and good service — any small gesture can go a long way in branding your establishment as a family-friendly cafe.
Last of all, be polite! Families are often overloaded with chores and responsibilities, and their lunch or dinner out is a treat for them. Make their occasion special. For you, it may be just another day, but acknowledge that for them it may be a special event. So be polite and kind, even if the child is misbehaving or grumpy.
Be sure that your staff is trained to make sure that families feel at home in your cafe. You can create a loyal customer base by providing a stress-free and comfortable place for families to eat and spend time with each other. Treat every one of your customers with respect and anticipate your needs, and your restaurant will be successful, with plenty of loyal customers.

There are numerous machines relating to your coffee accessories that you can purchase to make your task easier. If you have done your best to maintain the machine properly but if you are still unsatisfied with the overall quality of the drink, then perhaps your raw material is to blame.
If the quality of coffee powder used in the machine is not high, it is obvious that the resulting cup is also going to taste bad. There have been innumerable instances where people have enjoyed their cup more once they had a sniff of the aroma of freshly roasted coffee. However, this task is not something as simple as placing coffee seeds on the flame and roasting it. There are specific steps to be followed and specific tools and accessories to be used.
The best way to proceed is to make use of accessory especially designed for this task. You can checkout reviews of numerous coffee accessories online. You can compare different brands and find out how difficult it is to carry out these activities on a regular basis.
If you are not confident of undertaking this task on a regular basis, you can have some readymade coffee powder in your house and then opt for roasting. If you are in the mood of having a quick cup without the various tasks involved, you can proceed to use the readymade coffee powder.
On the other hand, if you want something really special and if you are ready to work towards it, you just have to make use of the coffee seeds, roast it and grind it to prepare fresh and hot espresso.
